I love words. I’m lucky enough to work with words everyday; I teach middle school language arts in Southern Maine. Words – written, spoken, read – have the power to change the world.
So, of course, I like to string words together by writing. My current project is an graduate research which studies the effectiveness of using visual strategies to complement the writing process. I’ve enjoyed the learning and collaboration that goes with this action research, but after three years, I’m reaching the point of just wanting to be done! May 10th is graduation – celebrate, celebrate…
When I’m not teaching or writing, I love traveling. My husband and I have traveled
extensively around the US, to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Canada. In 2005 I was fortunate to travel to Japan through the Japan Memorial Fulbright Foundation, and this summer of 2008 will find me exploring India and Sri Lanka for six weeks as a Fulbright-Hayes recipient. Still on the list of dream destinations: New Zealand, Poland, France, Patagonia, China, Switzerland, Belize…
So, what do
I do for good old fun?
My passion is snowboarding: halfpipe, boardercross, slalom. You’ll find me on the slopes and in the glades every week-end in the winter. Last winter, my husband and I traveled to Lake Tahoe where I competed in the USASA Nationals in BoarderCross (3rd), Halfpipe (3rd), and Slalom (4th).
Thanks to my family who support my crazy antics!
